    The results from Tuesday's Mille Lacs Band primary will set up a contest between former Chief Executive Melanie Benjamin and former Secretary/Treasurer Herb Weyaus, who led the effort to have Benjamin removed from office in 2008. Benjamin won the primary with 335 votes or 35.19 percent. Weyaus had 135 votes or 14.18 percent.     The Joint Assembly of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe met on February 16 to certify candidates for the 2012 Mille Lacs Band Election. Eighteen candidates were certified to run for chief executive, five for District 1 representative, and seven for school board. A primary will be held on April 3 to narrow the field to two candidates for each open position. The general election will be held on June 12.     Two Mille Lacs area residents among six charged in federal court In a crackdown on Native Mob members suspected of drug distribution, two local men, Dale Wesley Ballinger, Jr., 20, of Isle, and Damien Lee Beaulieu, 20, of Onamia, have been charged in a 47-count indictment.
