The results from Tuesday's Mille Lacs Band primary will set up a contest between former Chief Executive Melanie Benjamin and former Secretary/Treasurer Herb Weyaus, who led the effort to have Benjamin removed from office in 2008. The Joint Assembly of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe met on February 16 to certify candidates for the 2012 Mille Lacs Band Election. Eighteen candidates were certified to run for chief executive, five for District 1 representative, and seven for school board.
