Russell Travis Whitebird, age 42, of Ashland, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at his residence. He was born on June 6, 1981 in Ashland the son of Deborah Whitebird and Brian Wiggins.

Russell attended Ashland High School and was a man of many talents, skills and dreams. He wanted to go to school for Culinary Arts – he loved cooking and was encouraged to get that degree. He always wanted to get into the business of becoming a DJ as he LOVED music – mixing and creating his own sound and listening to and sharing that love for music with Karlene, their kids and his many friends. Russ also enjoyed building and creating things, loved working on cars and speaker systems.

Russ had many friends and acquaintances. If you knew him, you loved him! His main focus was his family, spending time with the kids at Valley Fair, enjoying movies, long walks and a lot of laughs! He could talk about everything and anything and always was there to help people in need. His most recent joy and title was that of "Grandpa". As often as he could, he would spend time with Zen and make sure he had the things he needed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Karlene White, his mom, Deborah Whitebird – Odanah, special parents, Dale Terry and Angela White, 4 children, Ethan Whitebird, Avery White, Amyah White and Ayden White, a grandson, Zen Young-Wolf, 6 siblings, Leslea Wiggins, Sweetie Bird, Naomi Corbine, Brianne Nicoletti, Samantha Marten and Curtis Wiggins and his special auntie, Sherri Dashner.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Loreen Whitebird, grandfather, Dalton Whitebird Sr., uncle, Robert Whitebird, his dad, Brian Wiggins, auntie, Pam Whitebird, godfather, Mark St. Clair, along with many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Bad River Wake House in Odanah. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., Thursday at the Wake House. Burial will take place in the Odanah Cemetery.

The Roberts Funeral Home of Ashland is handling the arrangements.
