Mario Arthur Yanez, MaKoons “Bear Cub” of Bear Clan, age 20, of Red Lake Journeyed to the Spirit world on Friday, November 18, 2022. He was born on June 19, 2002 in Bemidji the son of Melanie Sumner.

Mario was an intelligent kid. He excelled in math on his way to become a prodigy in math. The late father Jerry Rogers requested him to go to St. John’s Preparatory School in St. Cloud, Minnesota on a scholarship. He learned to play the piano on his own. He liked reading a variety of books, watching movies and playing basketball. Due to the circumstances of his parents and loss of family and friends, caused him to give up on his education. Mario was an affectionate and loving person that would be there to listen, regardless of his situation, Mario always had a special place in his heart for Bella. He especially loved his daughter the loves of his life!

urvived by his daughter: Briseis Brown of Cass Lake; special friend: Bella Brown of Cass Lake; mother: Melanie Sumner of Red Lake; brothers: Marcus (AhnDraya) Yanez Jr. and Bryan (Chasity) Sumner, Richard “John” Sumner; sisters: Maria Yanez, Simone Sumner and Mataeya Sumner all of Red Lake; aunt: Juanita Yanez of Minneapolis; uncles: Preston Sumner, Richard Sumner Jr., Rodney Spears Sr. and Burt (Doyla) Redeagle all of Red Lake and Antonio (Mona) Yanez of Cass Lake; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by maternal grandparents Mary and Richard Sumner Sr.; paternal grandparents Katherine and Torivio Yanez Sr., aunts Carmen and Sally Yanez and Michelle “Mushy” Spears; uncles Brian, Lester and Greg Sumner, Torivio “Chulo” Yanez Jr., Laverne Arthur; cousins Miah Robertson, Edward Fisher Sr., Celeste and Jeremy Yanez and Angela Beaulieu.
