Gerald Yost, age 78, of Twin Valley, MN, died Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Gerald Yost, the son of Herman and Evelyn (Stevens) Yost, was born on October 24, 1941 near Gary, MN. He grew up in the Mahnomen area where he attended school. As a young man, Gerald entered the United States Army, proudly serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, in 1966, he returned home and began working for the local oil company. On April 27, 1968, Gerald married Alice Lacina. They made their home in Mahnomen. Although they later divorced, Gerald and Alice remained close and shared much of their life together. While raising their sons, Gerald worked several jobs, most revolving around carpentry and woodworking. He worked at the lumber yard in Mahnomen and later in Waubun where he became a manager. Gerald operated his own construction company for many years. Several area shops, garages, decks, and various projects were built with Gerald's hands. He also drove truck for a time before he started his career at the Shooting Star Casino. In the late 1990's, Gerald moved to Twin Valley to make his home. Following his retirement, Gerald continued to stay busy as he was a jack of all trades willing to take on any project. He was very imaginative and could envision new ways to create or repurpose anything. Over the years, Gerald built many useful things for family and friends. He loved to work in his vegetable gardens and enjoyed the great outdoors. Gerald was an avid bow-hunter and cherished his time in the woods. He also spent hours trapping and selling furs. He had a notable sweet tooth and was often found with treats in hand and a smile on his face.

Gerald is survived by his sons: Oscar Oppegard of Naytahwaush, MN, Myron (Valarie) Yost of Ogema, MN, Richard (Teresa) Yost of Bemidji, MN, Jeremy (Rachel) Yost of Fertile, MN, Brandon (Jill) Yost of LaPorte, MN, Scott Yost of Naytahwaush, and Christopher (Heide) Yost of Ada, MN; one brother, Robert (Pat) Yost of Bagley, MN; 30 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Dune; and one grandson, Jeremiah.

Funeral Services, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 26, 2020, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Ada, MN. Visitation will be held one-hour prior at the church. Burial will be in the Fargo National Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
