Two New Videos Highlight First Nations' Native Agriculture & Food Systems Work

Through *First Nations Development Institute* [ http://www.firstnations.org ]'s association with the *W.K. Kellogg Foundation* [ http://www.wkkf.org ] over the years, together we have significantly advanced food sovereignty and food security for American Indian, Native Hawaiian and Alaska Native children, families and communities. This has taken place under First Nations' Native Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative (NAFSI), which has been generously supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation since NAFSI's implementation in 2002.

We recently completed two new short videos about food- and agriculture-related projects in Hawaii. We invite you to watch them on our YouTube Channel and leave a comment if you desire.

* The first is about the *Waimea Hawaiian Homesteaders' Association* [ http://hstrial-wwaimeahomestead.homestead.com/ ], which is a grantee of ours under NAFSI. Our support assisted the association's "Farming for the Working Class" project that enables Native Hawaiian homestead families to start actively farming their fallow land to grow fresh produce for themselves and the community. The program consists of hands-on farm training, paired with classroom-based learning and business training. You can view the video here: *http://youtu.be/LUPmdL68UlE* [ http://youtu.be/LUPmdL68UlE ]

* The second is about the *Sust`āinable Molokai* [ http://sustainablemolokai.org/ ] organization, which also is a grantee of ours under NAFSI. Our support assisted them in launching the Molokai Food Hub, which will give the Native Hawaiian farming community better access and control over its local food system. The Food Hub will help accurately manage orders and monitor product quality. Sust`āinable Molokai is a local, grassroots group formed to inspire youth and all Molokai residents to work toward a more sustainable future for the island. *Special thanks to Matt Yamashita, Kelly Pauole and Quazifilms Media for production of these videos.
