Roberta Jane Smith, "Berta", 57 years old, of Cass Lake, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. She was born on December 29, 1956 in Sisseton, SD the daughter of Levi, Sr. and Shirley (Shepherd) Williams.

Berta loved to go to the casino, attending pow-wows and being around her family and grandkids. She was one of the hardest workers who always loved what she did at work.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Levi, Sr. and Shirley, her sister; Imogene, brother; James King and one nephew Robbie Rederth.

Berta is survived by her husband; Pat Smith of Cass Lake, sons; Duane Hislaw, Bruce Hislaw, Joseph (Ramona Goose) Smith, Christian Smith, Patrick Smith, Jr., and Lionel Smith all of Cass Lake, MN, daughters; Heather (Isaac Raisch) Hislaw, Bobbi Jo (Remberto Howard) Hislaw, and Whitney Smith all of Cass Lake, brothers; Levi (Robin) Willaims, Jr. of Cass Lake, and Damascus Troy Williams of Cass Lake, sisters; Barbara Jens of Sisseton, SD, Lisalette Williams of Cass Lake, and Sharon King of Remer, MN, thirteen grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

A wake service for Berta will begin at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2014 and will continue until the 1:00 p.m. service on Wednesday, November 19, all at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN. Pallbearers for Berta include Cody Williams, Tom DeCoteau, Ephrem Curry, Remberto Howard, Davonte Hislaw and Eric Jens. Honorary pallbearers will be all her family and friends. Interment will be held in the Windom Family Cemetery at Pennington, MN following the service on Wednesday.
