Ernestine Fairbanks-Day, age 61, of Onigum, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 peacefully at her home in Onigum with her family by her side. She was born on March 2, 1954 in Cass Lake, the daughter of Edward James and Ethel Mae Fairbanks.

Ernestine loved taking care of children. She drove bus and cooked for the Onigum Head Start for over 20 years. There wasn't a person that she didn't care for. You could often find her traveling to help people in need and it didn't matter a distance. Ernestine even took a couple of trips out to California to help. She was a wonderful, wonderful sister in-law. There wasn't a person who didn't love her. She had a beautiful smile that was contagious. Ernestine worked for Elder Care for LLBO which also found her traveling. She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother and a special friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Ernestine's family who she joins again include her parents Edward and Ethel, brothers; Edward James Fairbanks, Darrel Michael Fairbanks, Bruce Wayne Fairbanks, and Phillip Jay Fairbanks, sisters; Eugenie Marie Fairbanks, Beatrice Ring, sons; Francis and Zachariah Kingbird, grandson; Morningsun Richardson, and a great grandson; Owen Adrian Bach.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her husband; Raymond Day of Onigum, sons; Edward Fairbanks III and Albert Day II both of Onigum, daughters; Tina (Donnie) Turney of Cass Lake, and Amanda (Steve) Richardson of Walker, brothers; Kenneth (Robin) Fairbanks of Cass Lake, Doug Fairbanks of Minneapolis, Roger (Valerie) Fairbanks of Backus, and Joe Cloud of Minneapolis, sisters; Hope (Harold) Thompson of Deer River, Cindy (Mike) Cervantes of Los Angeles, CA, and Teddie Redwing of Bena, grandchildren; Carl, Jr., Kyle, Vanessa, Clarence, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Jonah, Osmond and Owen, great grandchildren; Amera, Izaih, and Mae.

A wake service for Ernestine will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2014 at the Onigum Community Center and will continue until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, April 25 held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Onigum.
