Alfonso Basil Ross, "Wahbadan Wicasta" (Gentle Man), descendent of Chief Simon Anawangmani, age 61, of Sisseton, South Dakota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Friday, October 31, 2014 at The Coteau Des Praires Hospital.

He was born on November 24, 1952 in Sisseton, South Dakota the son of Henry John Ross and Ethel Lorraine Simon.

Alfonso graduated from The Sisseton Wahpeton Community College with a AA Degree in Liberal Arts.

He was employed as a S.W.O. Child Support file clerk.

Alfonso liked to cook, bead, watch sports like baseball, football and basketball. He also was fond of watching Rodeo bull riding, detective shows, Wheel of Fortune and drama movies. He liked to play bingo, slot machines and put puzzles together. He enjoyed making treats for all of his nieces and nephews. Alfonso helped others whenever he could. He loved to spend time with his family! He would listen to Pow Wow music, Buddy Redbow and The Oldies Radio Show with Sal Goodie.

Survived by his brothers: John Ross and Verlyn Tracy; sisters: Darlene Faye Ross, Katherine Gillard and Carmelia Johnson; special friends Bertha Greeley, Francine Small and Becky LaBelle; a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents and maternal grandparents Paul and Amelia Harris Simon and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services for Alfonso Basil Ross will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota. Interment will follow at The Long Hollow Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Dr. Clifford Canku, Reverend Dr. Michael Simon and C.R.E. Filmore Simon. Spiritual Leaders: Lavern BlackThunder, Russell Smith and Danny Seaboy Sr.

Drum Group will be "Buffalo Lake Singers" and special music by Carl and Ione Lufkins.

All night wake will be held on Monday, November 3rd, 2014 beginning at 7:30 P.M. at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Gretta Simon, Izola Flying Horse, Nicollette Simon, Amy Wright, Crystal Feather, Davona Seaboy, Special Aunties: Sally Simon, Jenny Cole, Barbara Mail, Christina Simon, Ione Lufkins, Marcella Haug and Rose Max Chase; special niece "grandbaby" Arianna Wright; special cousin and sidekick Almira "Ticka" Leith.

Casket Bearers will be Robin Laughter, Tim Laughter, Joshua Laughter, Ted Feather, Darin Wright, Marvin Maskewit, Andrew Tracy, Nicholas Markey, Chris Ross and Cameron Ross.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minnesota is serving the family.
