Kathleen Rose (Vernlund) Patch, who was full of life and energy, left this world on January 12, 2024 at 76 years of age.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a time of sharing at 6:30 PM, at Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck.

Kathy was born on January 11, 1948 to John (Joe) and Elsie (Johnson) Vernlund, one of ten children. She grew up on the family farm near Squaw Lake, Minnesota. Kathy graduated in 1967 from Blackduck High School. On July 29, 1967 she married Jens Matthew Patch. Together they made their home in Blackduck and raised their four children. When the children were older and more self-sufficient, Kathy pursued higher education. She attended both St. Scholastica and Bemidji State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Indian Studies and a Bachelor of Science Degree. Kathy held a variety of jobs; waitressing at Raphael's Bakery, foster mom, cook, and a substitute teacher for Red Lake Schools for the last 18 years.

Kathy was a caretaker. When the grandchildren were young you would find her doting, cooking, and spoiling them. Kathy was an amazing cook and baker. She would cook for her loved ones and coworkers at Red Lake and Ponemah Schools, and took those skills to a fish camp in Alaska. Kathy was an incredible seamstress and her quilts are beautiful works of art. Being a "Jill of Many Trades" you would find her running a saw or standing on scaffolding scraping old paint from the side of a house. She had the ability to take a ramshackle house or room and turn them into comfortable and unique spaces. She had a fondness for Victorian décor. In her spare time Kathy enjoyed reading, thrift shopping and visiting with family.

Kathy is survived by her children, Philip (Tammy), David and Stephanie Hedlin; grandchildren Brittany (Tony), KaitLynn, Tylor (Brittney), MaKayla (Blake), Matthew (Deonna), Courtney, Brianna (Jonathan), Dixon, Cathrynn, KayLeigh and Alec; great-grandchildren Light, Willow, Auron, Carson, Caden, Jens and Evelyn Kathleen; and several other family members.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jens; a son Mark; parents; a brother Steven (Mike); a sister, Vicki; and numerous other family members.
