Red Lake Summer Culture Camp at Red Lake Schools - P2

Red Lake Summer Culture Camp is a wrap! We had an awesome group of kids who showed up everyday to learn a variety of different Cultural Activities and Projects during the two week camp. Those activities and projects included Ojibwe Language and TPR movements, Ribbon skirt making, drumstick making, hand drum making, big drum teachings, traditional rattle making, tobacco pouch making, dream catcher teachings and making, bandolier bag paintings, hook-and-line fishing, and blanket/pillow making. Week 1 ended with a field trip to the Blackduck Theater where the kids got to watch Jack the Giant Slayer along with a picnic. Week 2 ended with a trip to Boardwalk Mini Golf & Snack Shack in Bemidji where the kids enjoyed 18 holes of mini golf and ice cream and capped off their day with a trip to Giovanni's for pizza and pop!

Shout out and Miigwech to all of the staff and organizers (Vicki, Giniw, Tara, Tami, Donovan, Wes, Rob, Raven) and a special thank you to our kitchen staff (Evon Spears and crew) who kept the kids fed and snacked-up throughout the days. We were able to eat bison and elk burgers, hominy soup, wild rice hot dishes,a variety of fresh-picked berries and fruits, and freshly squeezed lemonade. And last but not least, a gichi-Miigwech to all the parents/guardians for bringing our youth to experience and to learn a lot of these important Anishinaabe ways. We are all leaving this camp with a little bit of more knowledge than we all came with.
