Dakota Loren Holmes, Sr., age 27, of Cass Lake, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, from Cass Lake IHS Hospital in Cass Lake, MN. He was born in Marquette, Michigan on January 12th, 1995, to Laura Miron.

Dakota was raised in Gwinn, Michigan by his grandparents Bob and Faye, who adopted him later in life. He graduated from Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2013 while staying with his mother for a short time. He went on to attend secondary school to become a machinist. Dakota lived in several places before taking a job braiding cables at Mint Star in Grand Rapids, MN. He then moved to Cass Lake, MN where he met Leona and made his life there with her. Dakota proposed to Leona in 2017 and they were to be married this summer. Together they welcomed Dakota Jr. into the world in November 2021. He worked at the Leech Lake Market as a deli cook for years before accepting a position with the Leech Lake Heritage Sites Program, he was to start working there next month. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and hunting. Dakota also loved art, drawing and painting. His passion was muscle cars and muscle car shows. He also liked his video games, but his true pride and joy in his life were Leona and baby Dakota Jr.

Family that Dakota is reunited with are his Baby Holmes Twins, two unborn sons and his mom Faye (Wyatt) Holmes.

He leaves behind his fiancé, Leona Roybal of Cass Lake; son, Dakota Holmes, Jr .; dad, Robert Holmes, Sr. of Michigan; biological mother, Laura Miron; brothers, Jeffrey Holmes, Robert (Janie) Holmes, Jr., and Joshua (Amy) Holmes all of Michigan; sister, Shelby Pinkerton of Chicago, IL; close cousins, Daniel, Alex and James Holmes, numerous other relatives, and many friends.

A visitation for Dakota will be held from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22nd with a celebration of his life to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, all to be held at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN. Pallbearers for Dakota will be Alex Staples, Danial Lovelace, Leo Jones, Alex Larson, Zach Larson, and Mitchell Guenette. Alternate pallbearers are Ken Faulstrom and Kirby Finn. His honorary pallbearers are all his family in Michigan, Wayne Fisher, Sr., Clyde Tibbetts, and Patsy Fisher. Dakota's cremains will be cared for by Leona and his son.
