Leah Jean Defoe, age 46, formerly of Red Lake, Minnesota, passed away at her home in Brainerd, Minnesota, on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

Leah was born on November 20, 1975, in Red Lake, Minnesota, to Gregory "Tiggs" Needham and Eliza "Dolly" Defoe. She was raised in Red Lake and attended Red Lake schools. As a young girl, she is remembered as full of life, running barefoot through the yards and spending time at the lake. Leah was mother to six sons who gave her nine grandchildren, all of whom she loved with everything she had.

Leah was a social person and often the life of the many family get-togethers they had. Her sense of humor and laughter were special, bringing joy to all those around her. In addition to spending as much time as possible with her family, she enjoyed going to the casino and being outdoors, walking and more walking. She was a member of a large family with 49 first cousins and hundreds more extended family. She will definitely be missed by all who knew her.

Leah leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons Tyrone, Austin and Taylor Schoenborn and Dalton, Rylie and Carter Defoe; grandchildren Izzabella, Cassandra, Nevaeh, Amyrah, Keanu, Kelahni, Leshawn, Xavier, and Liam; special niece Megan Defoe, whom she helped raise; sister Deanna Defoe; brother Keith R. Defoe; aunts Darlene "Wooda" Needham, Kathy Defoe, and Melvina Defoe; uncles Keith (Jackie) Defoe, Pat (Lisa) Defoe, Mike Defoe, Sr. and Sheldon Defoe, Sr. Preceding her in death are her parents Gregory "Tiggs" Needham and Eliza "Dolly" Defoe; and grandparents Priscilla Defoe and Benedict Beaulieu and Belle Needham.

A wake for Leah will begin Monday, March 21, 2022, at 3:00pm, at the Red Lake Center, Red Lake, Minnesota, and will continue until the service on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 1:00pm. Fr. John Christianson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tyrone Schoenborn, Austin Schoenborn, Taylor Schoenborn, Dalton Defoe, Keith R. Defoe, Cody Cook, Kurtis Tarnow, and Billy J. Schoenborn, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Connie Defoe, Angie Defoe, Kelly Defoe, Kari Cook, Becky Cook, Ang Charnoski, Mary Ellen Cook, Karen Ramirez, Tanya White, Ashley Neadeau, John "Ringo" Needham, Robert "Bob" Needham, Randy "Jake" Desjarlait, and Megan Defoe. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake.
