Three new princesses crowned at Chickasaw Princess Pageant

ADA, Okla. – Faithlyn Seawright's talent for winning First American princess pageants continued unabated as she was crowned 2021-22 Chickasaw Princess.

Seawright served the Chickasaw Nation as Chickasaw Junior Princess in 2013-14. Additionally, she was crowned All Nations Pow Wow Princess in 2011 and 2013, Junior Miss Indian Oklahoma in 2015 and Miss Indian Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2018.

She is the 23-year-old daughter of Gwen Burris and Larry Seawright and has been active in Chickasaw Nation programs from an early age.

She is a 2016 graduate of Latta High School and recently completed a bachelor's degree in fine arts and museum studies at the Institute of American Indian Arts, located in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In summer 2021, Seawright was the first tribal intern for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in Jackson. She plans to pursue her doctorate degree in anthropology from Mississippi State University located in Starkville, Mississippi.

Two other young Chickasaw women earned crowns.

Jayla Underwood was crowned Chickasaw Junior Princess.

She is the 13-year-old daughter of Brandon White Eagle and Jerilene Underwood. She is an eighth grade student at McLish Middle School and a member of the Chickasaw Nation Language Club and Bak Bak youth stickball team.

Nannola Wallace, 9-year-old daughter of Ashley Wallace and her late husband, Jeremy, earned the title of Little Miss Chickasaw. She attends Homer Elementary in Byng Public Schools and is a fourth grade student.

Wallace is involved in the Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe, Academic Bowl, Choir, Virtual Kids Club and Bak Bak youth stickball team.

Seawright takes over from 2019-21 Chickasaw Princess Markita McCarty who served two terms due to the COVID-19 pandemic cancellation of the 2020 pageant. Also serving two terms for the Chickasaw Nation were Chickasaw Junior Princess Brenlee Underwood and Little Miss Chickasaw Kensey Carter.

The pageant is usually the first offering of a weeklong Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival where a multitude of special events culminate with Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby's State of the Nation address.
