Eugene E. Lafontaine

July 11, 1950 - December 19, 2020

Eugene Earl LaFontaine, age 70, of Blaine, MN journeyed to the Spirit World on December 19, 2020

He was born on July 11, 1950 in Moorhead, MN the son of Andrew LaFontaine and Bernice King.

Eugene “Buddy” was that special kind of person who must have born with a smile on his face. He had the best sense of humor. No matter the direction his life took him, through all the ups and downs he found a way to move forward. When he told his stories he told them in that funny way only he could and he would make us laugh. He was a great teaser, getting us all to not take ourselves too seriously. It was one of his greatest gifts, to make people smile and laugh.

He was a humble man. He never wanted the spotlight but he was always there in the background ready to help. He never told people what to do; he would console them with a story about something that happened in his life that made him change things. His words were encouraging, telling others to never give up, work hard, do your part and things will get better.

Buddy valued family most of all. For 44 years he and Carolyn were together. After raising their family they became a guide and support as the grandchildren and great grandchildren came. They lovingly called him ”Poppa” and “Boopa”.

For his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews Buddy became that anchor, that connection to the family history. He would always have an uplifting word. He was always interested in knowing how each one was doing. Always ending our talks with, “I love you” or “tell them I love them”.

Buddy was a man of deep faith. It is what got him through his life. He kept us all in his prayers. And now, we pray with gratitude that he was a part of our lives and are grateful for the gifts he shared with us.

He was preceded in death by wife Carolyn (Tinsley) LaFontaine; mother Bernice (King) LaFontaine; father Andrew LaFontaine; brothers Andrew D. LaFontaine and Waylon K. LaFontaine; sister Arlis (LaFontaine) Hopkin; other relatives and friends.

Survived by siblings Lyle LaFontaine; Cheryl (LaFontaine) Aviña (Husband Oscar Aviña); Harlen LaFontaine; June Wittliff; Cheryl Wittliff; Marlin Wittliff; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family.

Eugene and Carolyn raised a loving family together Bryan Hunsucker; Sheri (Hunsucker) Poor (Husband Darron Poor); Ron Heart. Deceased: Kelly Hunsucker and Laura Hunsucker
