Beverly Germaine Gitzen

Beverly Germaine (Smith) Gitzen, age 87 of Cloquet, MN passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born in February 12, 1932 to William J. and Evelyn (Gurno) Smith in Cloquet. Bev was a proud member of the Fond du Lac Band of Ojibwe. She was employed various places over the years including Diamond Match, Northwest Paper and retired as a teacher with Fond du Lac Head Start. Bev enjoyed painting ceramics, watching the MN Vikings, crossword puzzles and visiting at the elder's dinners and picnics.

Bev was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joe and Charlette (Houle) Smith; maternal grandparents, Gus and Mary (Rabideau) Gurno; parents, Bill and Evelyn Smith; husband, John Gitzen; brothers, William "Pat" Smith and Sherman "Dale" Smith; sisters, Roberta Pelofske and Mary Koski; nephews, Stewart and Scott Smith; nieces, Shelly Smith, Terri Dubla and Memorie "Nonie" Smith; and brother-in-law, Martin Koski. Bev is survived by her son, David (Darilyn) Gitzen; her longtime friend, Sharon Tebay and numerous nieces and nephews.
