Leroy Eldon Nelson, 82, of Bagley, MN, died on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

He was born on October 22, 1936 in Roy Lake, Minnesota to Elizabeth Littlewolf, but raised by Sadie Nelson. He attended Bagley High School and graduated in 1954. He met the love of his life, Velva Nelson at the Clearwater County Fair and she waited for him for three years while he was in the Navy. He came back home and they were wed November 22, 1958 in Holst Township on the family farm. Leroy worked as the key custodian at the Bagley Highschool for 32 years. He made an impact on many students and school employees lives. Leroy enjoyed learning about his heritage and about being Native American. He was a great outdoorsman and loved camping and fishing. Leroy adored his grandkids and great grandkids and loved being with his family. He will be tremendously missed.

He is survived by his wife Velva; his children, Valerie Goodwin, Stacey (Butch) Kier, and Brent (Kathy) Nelson; his grandchildren, Jessica (Tim), Krista, Zachary (Biance), Tammi, Terry (Logan), Jacob, Taylor (Megan), Samantha, Riley, Casey, and Sydney; his great grandchildren, Jayden, Amiah, Marcus, Cammile, Neveah, Niah, Trenton, Taylon, and Carlie; his sister-in-law, Fern Aamodt; his uncle, Robert Littlewolf; his cousin, Jim (Cheryl) Littlewolf; a father of his grandkids, Jimmy Goodwin; a father of his great grandchildren, Zane Grey; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sadie Nelson; his in-laws, Alice and Clarence Nelson; and his brother, Allen Aamodt.
