Bemidji Pioneer: BHS holds special recognition for American Indian graduates

BEMIDJI -- Eighteen-year-old Kaleb Pemberton is on track to graduate from Bemidji High School later this month, then head to Itasca Community College to study wildland firefighting. He's aiming for a wildland firefighting career, he said, and is already on board with a firefighting crew in Red Lake.

Pemberton and 35 other American Indian soon-to-be graduates were honored Thursday at the high school's annual American Indian Senior Honor Banquet, which aims to highlight Native students there and their accomplishments ahead of the high school's larger graduation ceremony later this month.
