Leonard Porter, age 86, of Duluth, MN, formerly Mahnomen, MN, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Essentia Health in Duluth, MN.

Leonard Vere Porter was born October 6, 1929 to Donald R. and Ida (Clark) Porter in Mahnomen County. He grew up and attended school in the Mahnomen area, joining the Navy as a young man. After an honorable discharge, Leonard settled in Chicago, where he spent most of his life, working as a plumber. While there, he married Lynette Burnette and had four children. His mom, Ida, helped with raising those children. The last couple weeks were spent in Duluth with his son, Wayne.

Leonard is survived by his sons, Wayne of Duluth and Bryan of Black River Falls, WI and his daughter, Rhonda (Tim) Phillips of Minneapolis, one brother, Russell (Margaret) of Bemidji and one sister, Geraldine (Orville) Ayers of Minneapolis, five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Leonard Jr and three brothers.

Funeral Services were held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Rice Lake Community Center in Rice Lake. Visitation was from 5:00pm until service, with a Prayer Service led by the Ojibwe Singers beginning at 7:00pm, on Friday, November 13th at Rice Lake Community Center. Burial was at Pine Bend Cemetery.
