New Years Gathering and Pow Wow held in Red Lake - P22

On Wednesday, December 31, 2014, the Annual New Years Gathering took place at the Red Lake Humanities Center.

A feast at 5 PM started off the event, and the pow wow grand entry began at 7 PM. Murphy Thomas was the MC, and the host drum was Young Kingbird. There were 13 registered drums for the gathering.

Specials included Golden Age Men 55+ - 200/150/100, Golden Age Women 55+ - 200/150/100, Men 18-54 - 200/150/100, Women 18-54 - 200/150/100, Teen/Junior Boys (11-17) - 100/75/50, Teen/Junior Girls (11-17) - 100/75/50 and a Hand Drum Contest (3-5 people team) – 300/200/100. An honorarium was paid for all dancers in full regalia.

Door prizes were also awarded to everyone in attendance.

There were also food contests which included; Best Bread, Best Chili, Best Wild Rice, Best Wings and Best Dessert.

The payout for each category was $100, $75 and $50.

The event was sponsored by Red Lake Chemical Health Programs and the Indian and Free Program.
