IMMERSION SCHOOL COORDINATOR

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & PLANNING

Primary Function:

To develop, implement, and manage the Immersion School Program as one of the Red Lake Nation's strategies to preserve the Ojibwe language and develop fluent youth speakers. Report to the Director of Economic Development & Planning, full-time position w/benefits, salary; DOQ.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

• Programmatic and administrative management of Immersion School Program, including finding grants to support the program.

• Grant and contract management; negotiating when applicable, monitoring progress of agreements, and maintaining documentation to ensure successful grant compliance.

• Collaborate with Immersion School team to develop and implement new strategies and programs to ensure the growth and stability of the program.

• Responsible for overall leadership of staff in the development and implementation of short and long-range program plans, goals & objectives, policies, and activities.

• Human resource management for employees of Immersion School Project in conjunction with Economic Development Director and/or the Head Start Director.

• Serve as liaison with other organizations interacting with language immersion and preservation, such as: the Red Lake Head Start, Red Lake School District, Red Lake Nation College, and other community stakeholders.

• Facilitate the coordination of Advisory Committee meetings, activities, and paperwork.

• Assist with development of items defined by Advisory Committee for Immersion School.

• Work closely with staff to ensure they are provided with appropriate support systems, materials, and responsiveness.

• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and clients.

• Assist with teaching when needed in the classroom.

• Documentation and maintenance of activities and budget expenditures, to assist the program with measurement and evaluation of program impact.

• Continuous monitoring of the language preservation industry, watching for opportunities and resources that will benefit the program.

• Well-developed oral and written communication skills; able to present appropriate and concise information, meet specified deadlines, and work well under pressure.

• Assist with marketing and promoting program activities to the community.

• Be an effective Economic Development & Planning team member and maintain effective communication with the department.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field

• Background or experience with immersion schools

• Experience writing and managing grants

• Must have good interpersonal skills

• High organizational and management ability, and maintain detailed records

• Commitment and drive for language revitalization and sustainability of the project

• Willingness to work intensive and long hours

• American Indian Preference.
