MNDOT Update - June 2, 2014

Detour on Highway 2/71 along the Bemidji bypass begins June 6

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists on Trunk Highway (TH) 2/71 in northwestern Minnesota will experience a detour from Friday, June 6 through Monday, June 9 as crews remove the bridge deck of the 15th Street Bridge over the Bemidji bypass. Later this summer, there will be a need to shift traffic on the TH 2 bypass at the bridge site in order to construct the new bridge deck.

The detour for westbound traffic on TH 2 and northbound TH 71 will follow 5th Street (County Road 7) west to Adams Street (County Road 11) north, following it to its junction with TH 2 and the airport road. Northbound TH 71 and eastbound TH 197 traffic will then proceed east on TH 2. Eastbound TH 2 and southbound TH 71 will follow the detour in the opposite direction.

15th Street over TH 2/71 will also experience a long-term detour beginning on June 4 when the 15th Street bridge closes.

The detour of 15th Street from the east (Bemidji) will follow 15th Street west to Middle School Drive north, follow TH 197 west onto TH 2, and then Adams Avenue (County Road 11) south. This detour will end in late August, weather permitting.

Westbound Interstate 94 ramps in Monticello close; westbound lanes switch to eastbound side of road May 31

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists traveling through Monticello may encounter delays and slow traffic as the westbound lanes of I-94 between County Road 18 and Highway 25 are shifted to the eastbound side of the road beginning at 2 p.m. May 31.

Both directions of I-94 will have narrowed, temporary lanes with a reduced speed limit of 55 mph through early-Oct.

Also beginning May 31, the ramp from westbound I-94 to Highway 25 will close. Motorists traveling from westbound I-94 to local roads and businesses in Monticello will be directed to exit at County Road 18, about two miles before the closed Highway 25 ramp. The Highway 25 ramp will open in late-July/early-Aug.

These lane shifts and ramp closures were originally scheduled to begin May 21. That date was postponed following a pavement failure on the temporary westbound lanes.

Other I-94 ramps in Monticello will close as scheduled below.

• The ramp from County Road 18 to westbound I-94 will close through early-Oct. A signed detour will direct motorists along local roads, to Highway 25, to westbound I-94.

• The two ramps from Highway 25 to eastbound I-94 will remain closed through early-Oct. Motorists may access eastbound I-94 at County Road 18.

• The ramp from Highway 25 to westbound I-94 is scheduled to close June 5.
