Robert Wayne Mesabi

Robert Wayne Mesabi, 54, of Cass Lake died Monday, April 23, 2012 at his nephew’s home in Brainerd.

Funeral services will be on 11:00 am Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Facility Center in Cass Lake with Rev. George Ross officiating. A wake will begin at 11 am on Friday, April 27, 2012 and will continue until the time of the services on Saturday. Interment will be at the Cloud-Fairbanks Cemetery near Oak Point, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Cass Lake.

Robert was born November 4, 1957 in Cass Lake, MN, the son of Daniel, Sr. and Edith (Fairbanks) Mesabi. He was raised and educated in the Pine River and Crosby area. He ran Cross Country in high school. He moved to Minneapolis where he learned the landscaping trade. He then became employed in the trenching business, traveling all over the United States working on projects. He returned to Cass Lake where for the last 10 years he has been very proud of his work as a groundskeeper for the Palace Casino, He was Employee of the month several times. He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors.

He is survived by the love of his life, his daughter- Violena Belcourt (age 5) of Bena, MN Sister- Ann Severson of Brainerd, MN Nieces- Sara (Barcie) Severson and Robin (Andre) Rogers Nephews- Steve (Lynn) Severson and Ryan (Kati) Severson Great nieces and nephews- Devin, Madison, Taylar Ann, Steven, Dylan, Lyndsey, Hayley, Patience and Josephine Special friend- Marilyn “JoJo” Staples of Cass Lake Best buddy- Ron Hare and many cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Daniel, Jr., niece Tina and nephew Mikel.

Active Casketbearers will be Steve Severson, Ryan Severson, Steven Severson, Dylan Severson, Richard Schulman and Jeff Schulman.

Honorary Casketbearers will be his Cass Lake “Family”- the Hare Family including Patsy, Almon, Tony, Ron, Stan, Ken, Dave and Tom Hare.
