Position Announcement: Wildlife Technician

The Red Lake Department of Natural Resources is seeking qualified applicants for an entry-level Technician position within its Wildlife Program. This is a semi-permanent position that is dependant on external grant-funding. The successful candidate will report directly to Wildlife Program Biologists.

Position Description:

-----conduct various wildlife surveys

-----participate in wildlife habitat enhancement and restoration projects

-----maintain and operate vehicles and equipment

-----handle sick, injured, and wild animals involved in research activities

-----other duties as assigned

Requirements: to be considered for this position, applicant must

-----possess a valid driver’s license

-----have no criminal record that would inhibit travel to and from Canada

-----be able to work long hours (often early mornings) in potentially harsh conditions

-----complete work assignments in remote locations, with occasional overnight travel.

-----be able to work alone, and cooperatively with others

-----be punctual

-----be responsible for maintenance of expensive (and sometimes dangerous) equipment

-----be adaptive and willing to develop new skills

Preferred qualifications:

-----educational background in a natural resources management or related field.

-----ability to identify / recognize local wildlife species

-----experience in collecting and recording data

-----experience conducting wildlife surveys

-----experience operating and maintaining all-terrain vehicles and heavy equipment

Preferred start date: June 1, 2012

Salary: DOQ
