Margaret Ann Miller Dow Jones

Margaret Ann Miller Dow (Jones), 70, whose Ojibwe name is “Zhooniyans” which means “Money”, She was a member of the Bulhead Clan, of Redby, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Red Lake Indian PHS Hospital.

Traditional Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah with spiritual leader Steve Jackson. A wake will begin on Tuesday morning at the Ponemah Community Center and will continue until the time of the services on Thursday. Interment will be at the Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Margaret was born March 28, 1941 in Red Lake, the daughter of Simon Miller Dow and Daisy King. She was raised and educated in Red Lake. She was employed by the Cedar Craft and then the Cedar Mill in Redby, the Red Lake Drug Abuse Rehab Facility and Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Center. She enjoyed playing casino, rummaging, watching animal and food channels. She loved spending time with her daughter, grandkids, great grandkids and her animals Al, Missy, Sassy and Ole and loved her flowers. Margaret raised several of her grandchildren and was a very loving and compassionate woman that touched many hearts with a good sense of humor to brighten up a person’s day. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her long life companion of 21 years, Jerome Strong, Sr. of Redby, Daughter- Valencia (Keith King) Jones of Redby, Son- Wesley Jones of Duluth, 2 adopted sons- Barry (Willa) King and Gilbert Lasley Special grandchildren - Dion Jones, Temara, Andre and Jaden Harrison all of Redby Brother- Marvin Hurd of Ponemah 32 grandchildren 50 great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers- Raymond Raincloud, Lawrence Dow, Sr. and Grover Dow, 2 granddaughters, 3 sons- Kevin, Virgil and Bill and daughter- Kelly.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Muggs Dow Perkins, Olive Dow, Joyce Brown, Darlene Johnson, Connie Nelson, Tara Kingbird, Linda Dow, Millie Dow, Kim Hurd, Johnny Hurd and her granddaughters. Active casketbearers will be Barry King, Earl Raincloud, Keith King, Carl Fairbanks, Jr., Jerome Strong, Jr., Kevin Jones, Jr., Delmer Martin with alternates Darwin Strong and Keith Dow, Sr. and Larry Dow, Jr.
