  • Cherokee Language Creator To Be Honored On $1 Coin

    WASHINGTON - The United States Mint released the design that will appear on the reverse (tails) of the Native American $1 Coin next year. The coin will honor Sequoyah of the Cherokee Nation, creator of the Cherokee language, the U.S. Mint said in a news release.     Emma Tworzyanski had no idea that a project for her Grade 12 sports management class would land her nearly 2,000 kilometres away from home and create the foundation for the first-ever girls hockey team in Eabametoong First Nation in northern Ontario.   • Northern Cheyenne Tribal member admits to starting shootout at Lame Deer shop

    LAME DEER - The Northern Cheyenne tribal member accused of shooting a man at a Lame Deer convenience store in March admitted to the crime on Wednesday. Devan Sanchez, 25, appeared in U.S. District Court in Billings to plead guilty to the charge of assault. Sanchez entered a plea agreement where prosecutors agreed to dismiss the charges of assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a weapon and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime in exchange for his guilty plea. http://www.ktvq.com/story/34056239/northern-ch...

  • House fire suspected of claiming father, 4 children on Oneida First Nation

    A father and four of his children are believed to have died in a house fire Wednesday on the Oneida Nation of the Thames near London, Ont. Police haven’t confirmed the identities of the victims but said investigators have found the remains of two people, one adult and a child, but are still searching the scene for three more victims that are presumed dead. “The community is not the same,” said Oneida Chief Randall Phillips, adding there is a not a community member who doesn’t know one of the victims. http://aptn.ca/news/2016...
