  • In global porn probe, Minnesota federal judge calls FBI search unconstitutional, but says evidence can stay

    Aug 8, 2017

A worldwide FBI search of hundreds of computers purportedly used to access a secretive child pornography website was unconstitutional, Minnesota’s chief federal judge wrote on Monday. But the judge refused to throw out evidence that resulted from the search and that was used to prosecute a man from Coleraine, Minn., after he found no signs of FBI misconduct in the probe. http://www.startribune.com/in-global-porn-probe-minnesota-federal-judge-calls-fbi-search-unconstitutional-but-says-evidence-can-stay/439066493/...

  • Volunteers scour Minnesota lakes for newest invasive: starry stonewort

    Aug 8, 2017

It was a sort of scavenger hunt, only the participants were hoping to come home empty-handed. In an effort to curb the spread of starry stonewort, Minnesota’s newest aquatic invasive species, scientists at the University of Minnesota and two partner organizations put out the call to citizen volunteers who want to help save the state’s lakes — or at least learn more about icky weeds. On Saturday, more than 220 volunteers turned up, inspecting dozens of lakes and collecting samples of anything that looked suspicious. http://ww...

  • Trump says base is 'stronger than ever' despite polling to the contrary

    Aug 8, 2017

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Monday morning to declare that his political base is “bigger & stronger than ever before” despite recent polling — which he branded “fake” — that shows a drop-off in support. In a series of tweets from Bedminster, N.J., where Trump is on what aides describe as a 17-day “working vacation,” he ticked off a number of factors that he said have “driven the Trump base even closer together.” http://www.startribune.com/trump-says-base-is-stronger-than-ever-despite-polling-to-the-contrary/438...

  • Trump administration keeps deregulation teams shrouded in secrecy

    Aug 8, 2017

When President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to form teams to dismantle government regulations, the Transportation Department turned to people with deep industry ties. One appointee had previously lobbied the department on behalf of American Airlines. Another held executive roles for several electric and hybrid car companies regulated by the department. A third was a lawyer who represented United Airlines in regulatory matters. http://www.startribune.com/trump-administration-keeps-deregulation-teams-shrouded-in-secre...

  • Trump is breaking the federal government's promises to Native Americans

    Aug 8, 2017

When Republicans made yet another unsuccessful attempt to take away healthcare from millions of Americans last month, Native Americans, specifically Alaska Natives, worked to ensure that Sen. Lisa Murkowski voted against the plan, sealing its defeat. They fought against the “skinny repeal” because they understood that it would harm them. The United States has long guaranteed Native Americans access to healthcare, mostly through commitments the federal government made to Indian tribes in exchange for land. Repeal of Obamacare would put much of...

  • Homicide victims didn't live in Lodge Grass home where they were shot, FBI says

    Aug 8, 2017

The three people killed in a shootout in Lodge Grass Friday were not residents of the home where the incident took place, the FBI said Monday. The three homicide victims entered a house on the 200 block of North Helen Street "when an altercation took place which resulted in an exchange of gun fire," FBI Supervisor Travis Burrows said in the statement. http://billingsgazette.com/news/crime/homicide-victims-didn-t-live-in-lodge-grass-home-where/article_e9d3ebd5-639b-5ff3-9dd7-6a1f3b79edb8.html...

    Aug 8, 2017

The only event of its kind in Chula Vista that showcased Native American tradition was canceled for the second consecutive year, and it may be gone for good. That is, says event organizer Susan Johnson, unless someone else steps up. Johnson had led event efforts since inception of the South Bayfront Powwow in 2012. She also helped establish the South Bayfront Artists, the group that came up with the idea for the powwow. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/south-county/sd-se-southbay-powwow-0810-story.html...
