  • Redby Episcopal Cemetery

    Russell Littlecreek|Jun 13, 2011

I asked mom if we could stop at the Episcopal cemetery before we went home as I wanted to look at May Dway Gwo No Nind`s grave. The cemetery is right next to the highway, a couple of blocks west of downtown Redby. It is kitty-corner from the Art Thunder Memorial Ballpark. Even though it is next to the highway, there is a peaceful feeling here. One I find in other cemeteries and graveyards as well as a rare few other places. Perhaps this is one thing that makes this sacred ground. It takes mom a while to find dad`s, uncle Ruggy`s, and great...

    Jun 13, 2011

The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date. This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city....

  • Responsibility

    Russell Littlecreek|Jun 13, 2011

Responsibility. To me, responsibility means the ability to respond. If something bad (or good) happens, and we are responsible for it, we must be ready to respond as a part of the consequences. President George W said that he was responsible for bad intelligence for starting the war in Iraq. He also said that he was responsible for failures in dealing with hurricane Katrina. But beyond saying he was responsible, his office as president was little affected by the consequences. I am impressed by all that the Band does for its members. We have...

  • Jun 13, 2011

It will no doubt surprise some people that there actually are individual Native Americans who own significant material assets. They belong to an invisible group, along with African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and others of color with wealth. The stereotype holds that people of wealth by definition must be White. It is certainly true that the American economic system has long privileged White folks and has erected structural barriers to economic participation by people of color, including of course, seizing Indian land and...
