Simon Douglas Roybal, Niganni Bines "Thunderbird Leader," Misko Bines "Red Thunderbird," age 65, began his journey to the spirit world on July 6, 2024 at his residence in Little Rock, Minnesota. He was born on December 25, 1958 to Benjamin Roybal Jr and Loretta King in Red Lake, Minnesota.

Simon lived in Red Lake until he moved to Minneapolis when he was around 9 years old. He got his GED, then drove a cab and worked construction before working in commercial roofing in Minneapolis for the next 40 years. He moved to Red Lake around 2000 prior to his retirement and married his soulmate, Neoka Donnell in 2013. He was currently working for Berglund Construction in Bemidji, Minnesota. Simon loved playing pool and he was excellent at it, earning many local and state championships. He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a skilled wood craftsman and loved to build beautiful pieces for his family. He liked working with agate rocks, playing horseshoes and walking on the lakeshore looking for arrowheads. He was a really good Dad.

Simon is survived by his beloved wife Neoka Roybal; sons Simon Roybal Jr and Raymond Roybal; daughters Alison Roybal, Sarah Roybal, Alyssa Brown, Willow Laroque and Brooklyn Roybal; grandchildren Justice White, River Pendleton, Hunter Pendleton, Tatonka Pendleton, Karma Roybal, Simon Roybal, Aliyah Roybal, Niibin Roybal, Lissy Roybal, Seqouia May; sisters-in-law Linda Donnell, Jill Donnell, Marissa Feather, Heather Donnell and Aiyanna Feather; Special Nieces Kiah (Dean) McKenzie and Sharon Tapio; brothers Benjamin Roybal III (Carol), John Roybal and Donald Staples Jr; and sisters-in-law Marie Roybal and Lisa Sayers; and mother-in-law Mary Fayant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Albert Roybal and Donald Roybal; and sisters Josephine Roybal and Susan Roybal; and father-in-law Harold Donnell.

The wake will start at 2 PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the Redby Center and continue until the service at 10 AM on Thursday, July 11, 2024 with Spiritual Advisor Fred Desjarlait. Active Pallbearers will be Hunter Pendleton, River Roybal, James Box, Todd Bedeau, Ray Roybal, Abel Sanchez, Willy Roybal, Tyler Miller, Colin Roybal and Rueben Olson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Miguel and Sharon Tapio, Laureen Neadeau, Marie Roybal, James & Melissa Kingbird, Kerry Heyers, Carol Whitefeather, Billy Jack Schoenborn, Ange Charnoski, Ron Sundve, Mike Sundve, Richard Bjorklund, Barry King, Willa Lussier and Gordy Johnson. Burial will be at the Donnell Family Burial Grounds.
