Art exhibit in Mahnomen puts positive reservation stories front and center

Exhibit at the Gizhiigin Arts Incubator focuses on the contributions of elders on the White Earth Reservation.

Kent Estey has a vision for how art can be used to share knowledge with younger generations, inspire creativity and bring positivity to his small community on the White Earth Indian Reservation.

His exhibit, "Naytahwaush: Faces, Stories and Artists" - which highlights the lives and skills of elders in the community through photography, text and other mediums - opened in May at the Gizhiigin Arts Incubator in Mahnomen.

The idea for it, he said, came out of frustration.
