Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to Visit North Carolina

WASHINGTON, June 3, 2024 – On Wednesday, June 5, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Vilsack will travel to western North Carolina for a series of events highlighting the Biden-Harris Administration's commitment to creating new revenue streams for producers and building rural prosperity, as well as promoting Tribal self-determination and economic opportunities.

In the morning, he will deliver remarks at the at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) 2024 Mid Year Convention and Marketplace in Cherokee, NC, where he will underscore USDA’s continuing commitment to Tribal self-governance and self-determination, removing unique barriers for Indigenous and Tribal access to USDA programs and services, and adapting USDA programs to include unique Tribal values and Indigenous perspectives. During his remarks, Secretary Vilsack will announce major investments to strengthen Tribal sovereignty and fulfill long-standing Tribal requests for USDA to better partner with Tribal Nations.

Secretary Vilsack will then travel to Asheville, NC, for an Investing in Rural America Town Hall. There, he will highlight how USDA is creating rural prosperity and additional income opportunities for producers and entrepreneurs by building more, new, and better markets; providing more options for consumers to buy healthy, locally produced products; investing in infrastructure and creating new jobs; and strengthening local and regional supply chains in North Carolina and across the country.
