MDH to release 2023 adverse health events data on Thursday, May 30

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will release the latest adverse health events (AHE) data for the State of Minnesota on Thursday, May 30. Media outlets interested in receiving an embargoed copy of the news release and AHE data on Wednesday, May 29, may submit a request to MDH Health Systems Bureau public information officer Garry Bowman via email to Garry.Bowman@state.mn.us.

In lieu of issuing 2023 adverse health events in a report formation, the latest round of data will be featured in a new chartbook format and includes AHE reports collected from health care providers from Oct. 7, 2022, to Oct. 6, 2023.

Minnesota’s mandatory adverse health event reporting system requires certain types of facilities to report whenever an adverse health event occurs and to conduct a root cause analysis to identify the causes and contributing factors that led to the event. The system includes 29 often preventable errors that could lead to serious injury or death.
