Michael "Mike" David Sayers (Inyan Wichasa)

February 5, 1963 ~ May 17, 2024 (age 61)

Michael "Mike" David Sayers (Inyan Wichasa), 61, of Duluth, started his journey on May 17, 2024 surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and mother-in-law.

Mike was a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, son, uncle, and brother. His humor is something everyone who has met him will always remember. He enjoyed many things in his life and excelled at many things. In his younger years, he was a champion fancy dancer and followed the powwow trail. His love of sports could be seen from miles away - he was in a bowling league for many years, as well as a softball league. This led him to go on and coach the little league team that his children ultimately played for. Mike was an excellent artist and had a talent for drawing realistic portraits from memory. He also enjoyed spending time at the casino and playing slots with his wife and children. On top of everything he enjoyed, what he loved most was spending time with his family.

Mike had a great respect and passion for the outdoors, for fishing, hunting and gathering. He took to the Lakota ways following his wife's traditions where he was a sundancer and pipe carrier.

He had a huge heart and always put all others before himself. He was always the first to step up and lend a helping hand no matter what tine of day or night, no matter how far away, nor no matter who you were.

Mike loved to cook and did so for every holiday and celebration that brought all the extended family together during these times. He was know to make the best frybread around.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Kay Sayers; father, Allen "Dopey" Sayers; mother, Cynthia Rose Sayers; and brothers, Thomas Sayers, Daniel Sayers, Gregory Sayers, and Melvin Sayers.

Mike is survived by his children, Jodelle LaClaire (Julissa Parkhurst), Jocelyn Sayers (Sam Liston), Jaylee Sayers, Michael Sayers, and his princess, Josephine Sayers; granddaughters, Veda Liston, Mary-Rose Parkhurst Jackson, and Nyleah Ojibway; siblings, Laura Keys, Duane Sayers, Allen "Bear" Sayers, and Harold "Sonny" Sayers; as well as all his aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial Service to be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 23rd at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy.

Until we meet again, may the Great Spirit make sunrise in your heart and may your moccasins make tracks in many snows yet to come.

Mike will be missed by many but will always be remembered and held in our hearts forever.
