'Bi-Mawadishiwewaad' exhibit opens May 17 at Watermark

BEMIDJI - Watermark Art Center is set to display Samuel Zimmerman's exhibit, "Bi-Mawadishiwewaad – When They Come to Visit," starting Friday, May 17, in Watermark's Miikanan Gallery.

Zimmerman's work explores his Ojibwe heritage, his experiences in nature, shared oral histories and the re-imagining of clan animal symbolism while incorporating the natural landscape of Lake Superior's North Shore, a release said.

After twenty years working in public education, Zimmerman returned home to Minnesota and rededicated himself to painting with ferocity. He continues his pursuit of Anishinaabe storytelling traditions by embedding themes of environmental stewardship and conservation in his work.
