Attorney General Ellison announces 2024 'Clean Slate' expungement tour

Tour kicks off in St. Paul this Saturday in partnership with Ramsey County Attorney John Choi

March 21, 2024 (SAINT PAUL) – Today, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced his Office’s 2024 “Clean Slate” tour of Minnesota. Over the next several months, his office will hold five expungement clinics across Minnesota where people with old convictions can have their records sealed, if they meet certain criteria. The Clean Slate Tour will kick off in St. Paul this Saturday with an event hosted in partnership with the Office of Ramsey County Attorney John Choi.

At each tour stop, staff from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and other partners will be available to review Minnesotans’ records, determine if they are eligible for expungement, and if they are, work with them and with the prosecutors to file the necessary paperwork to have their records sealed. For tour stops and locations, to RSVP, and for more information about who may qualify for expungement, Minnesotans are encouraged to visit http://www.ag.state.mn.us/Clean-Slate.

“Old, non-violent convictions should not stop folks who’ve turned over a new leaf from getting a good job, finding a place to live, and obtaining an education,” said Attorney General Ellison. “I share the people of Minnesota’s belief in redemption, and making sure people can contribute to their community is essential to that redemption. I look forward to the launch of our Clean Slate Tour, I’m grateful to everyone helping make this happen, and I encourage Minnesotans with old, non-violent records to stop by and see what we can do to help.”

“We have an obligation to help people who have paid their debt to society to remove the scarlet letter of a criminal conviction and the barriers it creates to accessing jobs, housing, education and other necessities in life,” said Ramsey County Attorney John Choi. “We are proud to partner with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office in this work.”
