The Thunderbirds advance to their fifth Region XIII Championship since 2016
The United Tribes Technical College women's basketball team surpassed a season-high 17 three-pointers to help pick up its sixth win, in the last seven games, against Dakota College at Bottineau, 97-78, on Wednesday night at the James Henry Gymasium.
With the win, UTTC improves to 12-16 (10-12 Mon-Dak) on the season. The vistory moves the Thunderbirds into the Region XIII Championship game on Sunday, against Gogebic College (8-14).
Tyleigh Brady paced the Thunderbirds with a season-high 22 points and four rebounds. Alionna Lawrence poured in a season-high 18 points, including 4-of-6 from deep, while Myona Dauphinais narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points, eight assists, and four steals. Sunnie Belgarde contributed huge minutes off the bench with 10 points, going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
As a team, the Thunderbirds drained a season-high 17 three pointers on 32 attempts. UTTC registered a season-best 53.1 three-point field goal percentage with eight different players hitting at least one triple. It marked a career-best three-point percentage in a single-game since 2021. The Thunderbirds shot 57.7 percent from beyond the arc at Turtle Mountain Community College on Nov. 2, 2021.
UTTC also handed out a season-high 29 assists with seven players distributing at least one. Myona Dauphinais paced the Thunderbirds tying a career-high eight assists, while Tyleigh Brady added seven and Lawrence dishing out four.
UTTC will be back in action in the Region XIII Championship in Ironwood, Michigan Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. CST.
