DNR to anglers: Get those fish houses off lakes before it's too late

Unseasonably warm temperatures are forecast again this weekend as ice starts to separate from shore

DULUTH — Anglers across northern Minnesota have until March 18 to get their fish houses off most lakes, but Department of Natural Resources officials in Minnesota and Wisconsin are warning they should probably act well before that due to deteriorating ice conditions in many areas.

In Minnesota, all overnight ice houses must be removed by 11:59 p.m. March 4, south of Minnesota Highway 200 and U.S. Highway 2, and March 18 to the north, with March 31 as the deadline for lakes on the Ontario border.

Ice houses on waters shared between Minnesota and Wisconsin must be off the ice by March 1, and those on lakes shared with the Dakotas by March 5.
