ARCHEOLOGIST
RED LAKE ENGINEERING

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Conducts Cultural Resource/Archaeological and Environmental reviews for the Red Lake Nation Engineering Department projects to ensure compliance with Tribal Codes and Federal Environmental and Historic Preservation Laws. Full-time position with benefits, reports to the Engineering Director. Salary; DOQ.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conducts file and records research to identify cultural resources, generate predictive models and prepare project research designs within the areas of effect of tribal engineering projects.
• Conducts field investigations to identify potential effects of tribal engineering projects on cultural resources properties and aspects of the natural environment.
• Conducts archaeological excavations and research to identify archaeological resources and evaluate their nature, condition, and significance.
• Supervises staff in the completion field archaeology and lab work.
• Writes reports and prepares file documentation of field and non-field project reviews to meet State, Federal, and professional standards.
• Writes Environmental Assessments in the various forms appropriate to the funding and review agencies.
• Maintains comprehensive tribal cultural resource inventory files.
• Coordinated efforts to inventory and preserve significant cultural heritage sites with all divisions of tribal government.
• Curates artifacts recovered from tribal lands.
• Conducts cultural resource research for other tribal programs and non-tribal entities as necessary.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Valid Minnesota Driver's License with valid Vehicle Insurance.
• Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
• Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree.
• Archaeology: Master's (MA/MS) Degree.
