National Civil Rights Leader Bishop William Barber Releases Statement After Minnesota Trooper Charged With Murder in Killing of Black Man

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - National religious and civil rights leader Bishop William Barber II released the following statement today reacting to Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty’s decision to charge Minnesota State Trooper Ryan Londregan with Second-Degree Murder in the death of 33-year-old Black man Ricky Cobb II.

Bishop Barber’s statement reads as follows:

The police are sworn to protect and serve. When he killed Ricky Cobb II, State Trooper Ryan Londregan committed the ultimate violation not only to that oath, but to his duty to the people of Minnesota and justice itself. By charging him with Second-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Manslaughter and First-Degree Assault, County Attorney Mary Moriarty has done the right thing and the only thing that will help correct this unjust system. We stand with her, Ricky Cobb’s family, attorney Harry Daniels and his team and encourage them to remain steadfast in their pursuit of fundamental justice.

It’s clear that Trooper Londregan committed the crime. A conviction on this charge will force him to do the time.
