Ute Tribe bars non-members from hunting and fishing on reservation

The Ute Tribe is banning non-members from engaging in hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreational activities on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation in Utah.

In a news release on Wednesday, the tribe said all current permits for hunting, fishing and outdoor activities have been terminated, effectively immediately. An "indefinite moratorium" also has been placed on future permits for non-members.

"As elected members of the business committee, we are duty-bound to take measures necessary to protect the health and safety of our members and our tribal officers," Chairman Julius T. Murray, III, said in the release.
