Floyd Peter Johnson, Sr., "Mud-ji-Kee'-wis" meaning "Being with Power" of the Eagle Clan and Nevis, MN, started his journey at his home on January 9th, 2024. He was born on September 24th, 1941, to William and Eva (Hurd) Johnson in Onigum, MN. He attended school in Walker and relocated to Akeley with his family.

Floyd enlisted in the U.S Marines Corp in 1960 and served until 1964 when he was honorably discharged. Floyd attended college in Detroit Lakes where he obtained a degree in carpentry. He was a strong hardworking man, worked as a logger for 40 years alongside his father. It was well known that Floyd was a very competitive person; he was known as the "left-handed horseshoe player" and hardly lost a game. He played the spoons like no other person!

Floyed enjoyed going hunting, fishing, and ricing, he also enjoyed gambling too. But he really loved to go to pow wows! He was well known around the communities as a recognized traditional single hoop dancer. That's where he met his beautiful wife, Leona La Rose. They were married in 1968 for 46 years. After retiring from logging, he became a security person for Northern Lights Casino for 22 years. It was during his time at the casino that he danced with his family under the "big tent" at the Cajun Fest doing his hoop dance.

Floyd will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving person. He loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren, he will be missed by all.

Those greeting Floyd in the spirit world are his parents, William and Eva Johnson; wife, Leona Johnson; daughter, Lorena Johnson, and numerous other family members.

Family Floyd leaves behind are his sons, Nick (Susan) Boylan, Lucas (Jenny) French, and Floyd Johnson, Jr .; daughters, Lorraine Johnson, Lisa (Van) Johnson, Loretta (Gary) Johnson, and Kim (Larry) McMahon; brothers, Orville Johnson, Ronald Johnson, and Kenneth Johnson; sister, Diana Blakely; 35 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-greatgrandchildren.

A two-day wake for Floyd will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2024, and continue until his 11:00 a.m. service on January 17, 2024, all to be held at the Onigum Community Center in Onigum, MN. Floyd's Spiritual Advisor will be Melvin Goodman. Pallbearers for Floyd will be Mike West, Jage Hunt, Arlen Bueno, Lucas French, Ronald Hunt, Keith Howard, Mike Washington, and Vernon Howard. Honorary pallbearers are Orville Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Joe Lagoo, John Kramer, Gary Feig, Terry Bush, Kenneth Johnson, and Brad McMahon. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Floyd's care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker, MN. Online condolences may be left for the family at
