Irvin "Dave" David Branchaud, 85 of Red Lake died Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Red Lake Center in Red Lake, MN. A wake will begin on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 1:00 pm and go until the time of the service. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Red Lake.
He was born October 24, 1938 in Red Lake, MN the son of Irvin and Frances (Cook) Branchaud. He was raised and educated in Red Lake, graduating from Red Lake High School in 1956. He served with the US Navy from 1956-1960 where he received the Aviation Safety Award and was honorably discharged. He worked maintenance for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He survived an explosion on April 29, 1980 at the 1200 On the Mall Condominiums in Minneapolis. He moved back to Red Lake and from 2017 until his death had lived at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji. He was a volunteer fireman in Red Lake for many years and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching sports, gambling, taking car rides, reading the newspaper, painting houses, Dolly Parton, and catching the Red Lake transit to Bemidji to go shopping but would always get off at the bar. He loved taking the Greyhound bus every weekend to Minneapolis, taking out his wallet and flashing his money, and shaking his fist.

He was preceded in death by his, Father – Irvin (Tippy) Branchaud, Mother – Frances (Kicken) Branchaud, Brother – Larry Branchaud, Brother – Lee Cook, Sister – Patsy Rudolph, Daughter – Wilma Branchaud, Daughter – Alvera Barrett, Grandson – Myron Howard, Grandson – Brian Cournoyer, Grandson – Arnold Maxwell Jr., Grandson – Dustin Barrett, Nephew – Darren Cook Sr., and Niece – Donna Desjarlait, and Great Niece – Amora Rose Antone.
