Highway 59 closed south of Lancaster due to train derailment

BEMIDJI, Minn. –(6:30 p.m.)The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed Highway 59 south of Lancaster due to a train derailment. Motorists will detour utilizing Highway 175 and Kittson County road 5. The highway will remain closed to allow local responders, rail inspectors and cleanup crews to continue their work, which could take into the weekend.

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail.
