SBA Minnesota Celebrates 2023 SBA's National Small Business Person of the Year

Nine Minnesota Businesses, Organizations Awarded for Resilience and Powering America’s Economic Recovery

MINNEAPOLIS – The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Minnesota office has named nine small business owners and SBA resource partners as Minnesota award winners for National Small Business Week. Held this year April 30-May 6, National Small Business Week annually recognizes the critical contributions of America’s 33 million small business owners and entrepreneurs.

“With more than 500,000 small businesses in Minnesota, we are excited to celebrate the efforts of Minnesota’s hard-working, innovative businesses and resource partners who boost the economy and create jobs this week,” said Brian McDonald, District Director of SBA Minnesota District Office. “It’s the first time in SBA history that a Minnesota Small Business Person of the Year has also won the 2023 SBA National Small Business Person of the Year. Abdirahman Kahin of Afro Deli Inc., was selected from more than 50 winners from U.S. states and territories as SBA’s national winner. He and all the Minnesota winners also go above and beyond to give back to their communities.”

SBA Great Lakes Regional Administrator Geri Aglipay notes, “Since 1964, National Small Business Week is the most important week of the year for the SBA. The Biden-Harris Administration is proud to be investing in America. We’re spotlighting the resilience of America’s entrepreneurs who help build an economy from the middle out and bottom up, versus an economy that trickles from the top down.”
