Frank "Sonny" James Donnell Jr., "Ma'iingan" meaning Wolf, "Spirit Eagle", age 74, of the Eagle Clan and Red Lake, MN journeyed to the Spirit World on Sunday March 26, 2023 from The Red Lake Hospital. He was born on August 7, 1948 in Red Lake, Minnesota, the son of Sophia (Roy) and Frank Donnell.

Sonny loved being around his nieces and nephews. He had special names for them. He also loved listening to music and cruising around. He especially loved his niece Cheryl who helped take care of him during his sickness and medical appointments. When he called in the middle of the night Cheryl was right there to help him.

Those greeting Sonny in the spirit world are his parents Frank and Sophia, his wife Hilda "Punky" in 2010, 3 brothers Billy Roy, Gordon Donnell, and David Donnell, his sisters Elaine Donnell, Lorraine Contreras, Carol Bevins, Theo Donnell, and Gwendolyn Lawrence; grandsons, Frank James Donnell III and Kristian James Donnell, Jr.

Frank leaves behind his son Kristian, (Melissa Greene) a daughter Angela McCarty, brother, Lloyd Donnell, Auntie, Thern Hegstrom, grandsons, Devin Johnson, Bradley McCarty, Matthew McCarty; granddaughter, Taylin May; great grandsons, Braxton McCarty, and Dawson McCarty, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

An overnight wake for Sonny will begin at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Old Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake and continue until his service on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Old Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake. Father John Christianson will officiate. Pallbearers helping to lay Sonny to rest are Lloyd Donnell, Jeff Schoenborn, Tyrone Schoenborn Jr., Bill Roy, Carmine Beaulieu, Roman Stately IV, alternates Jason Lawrence Sr., Craig Bevins, and Nate Bevins. Honorary pallbearers are Jan Parkhurst, Cheryl Schoenborn, Wilma Roy-Mondragon, Kelly Schoenborn, Nicole S. Beaulieu, Norine Beaulieu, Shaye Beaulieu, Jen Schoenborn, Chell Kingbird, Tera Nelson, Paula Lawrence, Garrick Lawrence, Mary Ann Cook, Mott Parkhurst, Tryone Schoenborn, Sr., Darwin Donnell and all his family and friends. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN at a later date.
