Buddy Jay Bird Sr, age 49 of Sisseton, South Dakota passed away on Tuesday, February 28. 2023 at Sanford West in Fargo, North Dakota.

Bud was born on August 10, 1973 is Sisseton, South Dakota, the son of Lincoln and Elena (Owen) Bird. He attended both Sisseton and Tiospa Zina schools, later obtaining his GED in 2010 at SWO tribe. He was joined in marriage on July 2, 1992 to Orvella LaBatte – Bird. From this union came Shennoah, Gabrielle, Buddy Jr., and Alexx. They moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota where he joined the union Bricklayers in 1993 until 2020, this was the job he enjoyed the most. Then he worked road construction with his daughters Nopes and GabsJae. In 2021, he worked in the maintenance department for the Dakota Magic Casino and Dakota Connection Casino up until his illness.

He was baptized in the name of Jesus and was a member of Dakota Alliance Church in Sisseton, South Dakota. His father-in-law Orville introduced him to the life of Enduro Racing, where he built his own car in 1999 #56B. After that he shared his car #40 with his daughters, Nopes and GabsJae. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Nascar, Dale Sr. and Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress.

Buddy liked making bets with his bro Tyse on football and Nascar, at one time he lost a bet and had to color his hair red. He enjoyed classic movies and loved attending rock concerts. He liked to play pool with friends. The Killer Hawgs took 3rd in the 2006 South Dakota Pool Tournament. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren: Bentley Orville Jay, the twins Florence Dawn and Eddelynn Jean. He liked taking care of his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife: RV; children and grandchildren; mother: Ruth; brother: Lincoln Jr. (Devola); sisters: Caroline, Frances and Lindy; Sylvia and Mike Owen; mother-in-law: Bertha Greeley. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his Maternal and Paternal grandparents; father: Lincoln Sr., sister: Valerie, infant brother: Joseph; father-in-law: Orville; sister-in-law: Melissa Smith, his best friends: Danen St. John, Bruce Lahm, Glenn Wanna, Clayton Small and nephew: Oakley Seaboy.

An all-night visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023 beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center in Sisseton, South Dakota.

A funeral service for Buddy Bird Sr., will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center in Sisseton, South Dakota.

Casket Bearers will be Jason Bird, Wayne Heminger Sr., Michael Heminger, Carson LaBatte, Norelle Bird, Emerson Bird, Bertha Greeley, Preston Fryer, Jake Bellanger

Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sisseton, South Dakota.
