BEMIDJI WATER TOWER RISER COLUMN IMPLOSION

On February 28, the City of Bemidji water tower located on 1st Street E experienced damage to its center water riser column. This damage was in the form of a column implosion and occurred during maintenance the utility department was performing on the water tower.

Sections of 1st Street E were cordoned off for about 2 hours while the City could confirm the structural integrity of the water tower was sound. The water tower is structurally sound. We do not anticipate any major impacts to the city’s water service delivery system while we resolve this issue.
