Jay Xiong (67B), released this statement issued the following statement in wake of the atrocious murder of Tyre Nichols at the hands of law enforcement:

“We send our deepest condolences and prayers to Tyre Nichols and his family. We are in pain and disheartened by the disregard for Mr. Nichols’ humanity. No parent should ever have to bury their child, especially at the hands of violent police officers who were sworn to protect them. Another family has been shattered and another precious life has been brutally taken. Tyre Nichols should be alive.

As a society, we must stop normalizing the action of turning lost lives into a hashtag. We will continue to work towards change in Minnesota so that we may live in a society where the lives of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people are no longer taken for granted.

The POCI Caucus calls on all legislators to work in solidarity and urgency on making transformational changes to policies and laws that will focus on ending police violence against residents.”
