A message from Red Lake Schools Superintendent Lutz
January 31, 2023
"The first week of our 2nd semester started out very well on Monday and Tuesday in the Secondary Complex with some wonderful experiential learning opportunities that helped us identify and train student peer leaders.
We worked with the 11th and 12th grades for two class periods. We introduced all of the students to a number of activities that brought forth lots of smiles, laughter, and teamwork.
After these sessions with the juniors and seniors, we asked for volunteers to step up and consider further training and learning to become peer leaders. I am so happy to report that we ended up with 26 juniors and seniors who have volunteered to be peer leaders! These will be the students who will lead our school towards improved behaviors and a safer school environment.
I am extremely proud of how our adult mentors and student peer leaders all stepped up for two great days of team building with each other and with younger students. Our next steps will be to continue working with our peer leader students as we bring in younger students each week to learn, grow, and develop positive relationships.
Ultimately, it is our hope that we will begin to see students behave better in school, resulting in fewer fights, fewer students being tardy, fewer students roaming the hallways, and improved attendance and grades throughout the rest of the school year.
Here are photos of lots of smiles, laughter, fun, engagement, and teamwork. These pictures tell it all!"
