Rita Ann Pemberton, age 50, of Cass Lake, MN, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. She was born on July 12, 1972, in Cass Lake, MN, the daughter of Simone (Thompson) and Alfred Pemberton, Sr.

Rita enjoyed 10+ years of working at the Palace Casino, Leech Lake Tribal College, and most recently she worked at the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Health Division. Rita enjoyed golfing, rummaging, concerts, beading, playing softball and kickball, and playing bingo. Rita made the best mashed potatoes and cheesy tater tot hotdish. She loved to watch her grandchildren at pow wows. Rita loved spending time with her grandkids, nieces, and nephews, and loved family events.

Rita is greeted in the spirit world by all her grandparents; sister, Roxanne Pemberton; brother, Ray Pemberton; aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and a nephew.

Those left behind to cherish Rita's memory are her parents, Alfred and Simone Pemberton, Sr .; son, Kyle Pemberton; boyfriend, David Mitchell; sisters, Rochelle (Joe) Pemberton, Rebecca (Leroy) Fairbanks; 2 granddaughters, Amarianna and Athena; auntie, Bernice Pemberton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

An overnight wake for Rita will begin on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. and continue until her service on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, 11:00 a.m., all to be held at the Mission Community Center. Father William "Bill" Butcher will officiate. Those helping to lay Rita to rest are Cody Wind, Leroy Fairbanks IV, Kenny Fahlstrom, Matt Connor, Ryan Connor, Dominic Fairbanks. Alternate is Charles Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Kerri Jourdain, Karen Anderson, Angie Losh, Angie Londgren, Nichole Powers, Branden Fairbanks, Tracy Peters, and all her close family and friends. Interment will be at a later date in the Thompsonville Family Cemetery in Cass Lake, MN.
