MNsure CEO Nate Clark to Retire in March

MNsure Senior Director of Public Affairs Libby Caulum named acting CEO

ST. PAUL, Minn.—MNsure Chief Executive Officer Nate Clark announced his plan to retire after over four years leading Minnesota’s health insurance marketplace. At a meeting of MNsure’s Board of Directors today, Clark announced his plan to retire on March 15, 2023. Libby Caulum, MNsure Senior Director of Public Affairs, was named acting CEO, effective March 16, 2023.

Under Clark’s leadership, MNsure has seen significant improvements in customer service and system stability, and record growth in the number of Minnesotans who purchase health insurance through the exchange.

“Leading the dedicated, hard-working MNsure team has been a true honor,” said Clark. “I’m so proud of the work we’ve done over the last few years to improve the experience for Minnesotans who use MNsure to access health coverage. I know this team will continue the important work of reducing barriers to coverage, increasing our outreach to underserved communities, and improving systems for the Minnesotans we serve.”

Clark joined MNsure in 2015 after an extensive career in the private sector, most recently as vice president for strategy and business development at Thompson Reuters. Clark first served as MNsure Chief Operating Officer before he was named CEO in August 2018. Under Clark’s leadership, MNsure undertook several major improvement projects, such as replacing MNsure’s legacy tools for plan comparison, shopping, and enrollment, strengthening the customer service call center, and leading other innovations that improved system stability and operational performance.

“Nate Clark’s steady leadership and his tireless pursuit to improve the consumer experience has meant more Minnesotans than ever have been able to access and maintain health insurance through MNsure,” said Suyapa Miranda, chair of the MNsure Board of Directors. “We wish Nate all the best in his retirement, and we’re confident that under Libby’s leadership, MNsure will continue building on the accomplishments Nate has overseen in his years as CEO.”

Caulum‘s first day as acting CEO will be March 16, 2023. Caulum will serve in the role while the board conducts a search for a permanent CEO.

“I’m excited to continue the good work we’ve done under Nate’s leadership,” said Caulum. “MNsure’s staff go above and beyond every day to ensure Minnesotans can access and maintain comprehensive health insurance that contributes to their overall health and well-being. I am honored to lead our team during this time of transition.”
